Tynemouth ASC swimmers enjoyed a successful first weekend of the North East Region Age Group Championships at the John Charles Centre in Leeds.

Facing swimmers from across the North East and Yorkshire, Tynemouth swimmers won a total of six medals, with others also reaching finals and recording new long-course PBs.

Swimmers in the 11-12 age group led the way on the medals front, with Katie Coventry crowned NER Champion with gold in the 100m breast with a solid PB, while another PB secured her silver in the 50m breast.

Niamh Savory (11) took three medals home, a silver from the 800m free, bronze from the 100m back with a new club record time of 1.14.53, and she set a club record on her way to taking bronze in the 400m IM with 5.30.65. Niamh also broke the club record in the 50m breast with 38.12 to reach the final, where she finished fifth.

Jack Kelso (12) also won a bronze after a gruelling 1500m swim with an impressive PB, finishing in 20.10.74. He also managed to reach the final of the 100m breast, finishing in sixth place, and recorded a 19.27-second PB in the 200m free.

Jamie Beach (12) also recorded an impressive 5.71-second PB in the final of the 200m fly, where he finished sixth setting a new club record of 2.45.46 in the process, and also knocked 7.83 seconds off his 200m free time.

George Watson (13) reached the final of the 400m IM with a superb 15.46-second PB, finishing ninth in the final, Emily Hedley (13) reached the finals of the 100m back and 200m free, finishing eighth and 10th respectively, while Arianna Stokes (13) also reached the final of the 50m free, finishing eighth. Katie Stobbs (14) reached the final of the 50m breast, where she finished eighth.

Also representing Tynemouth in Leeds were Jasper Hall (11), Anna Carr (11), Ava Perkins (12), Matthew Chandler (13), Eva Clapperton (13), Benjamyn Hartridge (13), Lauren Heppell (13), Maddie Wilson (13), Kathryn Bell (14) and Myles Harding (14).
