THERE was another bumper haul of medals won by Tynemouth ASC swimmers at this year’s Northumberland and Durham County Championships, with some impressive performances and long-course PBs.

No less than 13 golds, 26 silvers and 11 bronze medals were secured over the course of the two weekends of the event, held in the 50m pool at Sunderland Aquatic Centre.

In the 10-11 years age group, Abby Coventry (11) had no less than four gold medals to show for her efforts with success in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, and 200IM, plus won five silver medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m free, plus 50m and 100m back, and added a bronze in the 50m fly for good measure. Sophia Anderson (11) meanwhile recorded fifth-place finishes in the 50m free and 100m fly, came sixth in the 50m back and seventh in the 50m breast.

Freya Beach was also among the golds in the 12 years age group, winning the 50m, 100m and 200m back plus 100m fly, and taking silver in the 50m free and 50m fly, while Hannah Gray secured bronze in the 400m back and finished fourth in both the 50m and 100m back.

In the 13 years age group, Aidan Turner struck gold twice, in the 400m and 1500m free, and finished in silver medal position seven times in the 100m and 200m free, the 50m, 100m and 200m breast, and the 200IM and 400IM, plus took bronze in the 50m free. He also finished sixth in the 50m back and 10th in the 100m back.

In the same age group, Katy Otterson secured bronze in the 400m free, came fifth in the 800m free, seventh in the 200m free and 10th in the 100m free, while Daniel Payton was fourth in the 400m free, sixth in the 200m free, and seventh in both the 50m and 100m free, and Anna Johnson was seventh in the 200m breast.

Niamh Savory was also among the medals in the 14 years age group, with golds in the 100m and 200m breast, silver in the 50m breast, 100m fly, 200m back and 400IM, and a bronze in the 100m back, plus came fourth in the 50m fly, sixth in the 200IM, eighth in the 200m fly and ninth in the 800m free.

Elsewhere, Jamie Beach won gold in the 50m fly and silver in the 100m free, plus came fifth in the 50m free, while Ruby Dann took double silver in the 50m free and 50m fly, came fourth in the 100m free and sixth in the 100m fly; Beth Richardson came sixth in the 50m breast, eighth in the 200m breast and ninth in the 100m breast, and Jai Diddee finished ninth in the 400m free.

In the 15 years age group, Katie Coventry scored a silver hat-trick with second-place finishes in the 50m, 100m and 200m breast, plus came sixth in the 50m fly and ninth in both the 50m back and 800m free, while Jack Kelso secured silver in the 400IM, bronzes in both the 100m and 200m breast, came fourth in the 40m breast, sixth in the 400m free, ninth in the 200m back and 200IM, and 10th in the 200m free.

In the same age group, George Turner won bronze medals in both the 400m free and 1500m free, came seventh in both the 200m free and 400IM, and eighth in the 200m back, while Isobel Munnoch was sixth in the 400m free, eighth in the 400IM, and ninth in both the 100m and 200m breast, and Max Hartis finished seventh in the 100m back, eighth in the 200m free and 10th in the 50m back.

The 16 years and over age group saw Arianna Stokes (16) secure silver in the 50m free and bronze in the 50m fly, plus she came 10th in the 100m free; Jack Ashurst (17) took a bronze in the 100m fly and came fourth in both the 50m free and 40m fly; Katie Stobbs (16) was fourth in the 50m and 200m breast, and fifth in the 100m breast; James Hayes (17) finished fourth in the 50m back and Amy Heron (17) came fifth in the 50m back.
